Prescription for medication

If you need a prescription for medication but cannot visit a clinic in person, this can now be done remotely. An online prescription is issued after a consultation with a doctor, allowing you to save time and receive the necessary medications legally and safely.

You will receive a professional consultation with a doctor who will assess your condition, select the appropriate medication, and issue an electronic prescription.

Important information

 1. The maximum amount of medication that can be prescribed in one prescription is for 6 months of treatment (however, some medications can only be prescribed for a couple of months — this depends on Portugal’s national prescription dispensing system). 

 2.A prescription is issued only after a consultation with a doctor.

 3.The document is issued strictly in the name of the patient attending the consultation.

 4.Prescriptions cannot be issued for another person.

 5.Electronic prescriptions are accepted at all pharmacies in Portugal.

Medications available via prescription:

 - Prescription antibiotics — prescribed by a doctor only if necessary

 - Antidepressants and mental health medications — issued after consultation with a doctor

 - Hormonal medications — e.g., contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy

 - Strong painkillers — only if indicated

 - Anti-allergy medications — for treating chronic allergies
