If you have moved to Portugal and are continuing treatment that was previously prescribed, a doctor can help you obtain a local electronic prescription.

The service is suitable both for renewing a prescription issued in Portugal and for adapting a prescription issued in another country. The doctor will review your previous prescription, medication and dosage, conduct a short consultation, and determine whether the treatment can be continued in Portugal.

Important

  • The doctor’s consultation is included in the service price.
  • The original prescription must be issued in your name.
  • For prescriptions issued in Portugal, the previous prescription must be no more than 1 year old.
  • You must upload the prescription itself or a document containing the prescription, not an SMS code.
  • If the prescription was issued outside Portugal, the doctor will assess whether it can be adapted to the Portuguese healthcare system.
  • Not all medications prescribed in other countries are available in Portugal, and treatment protocols may differ.
  • If you have developed new symptoms or your treatment needs to be changed, the doctor may recommend additional tests or another consultation.
  • The quantity of medication and the prescription validity period are determined by the doctor in accordance with Portuguese regulations. A prescription is not automatically issued for one year or for the quantity requested by the patient. Depending on the medication and medical condition, the prescription may cover between 1 and 6 months of treatment.
  • The decision to prescribe a medication and determine the quantity always rests with the doctor.

How it works

  1. You upload your previous prescription or treatment document.
  2. The doctor conducts a consultation and reviews your treatment.
  3. If continuing the therapy is medically appropriate, an electronic prescription is issued.
  4. The prescription is sent to your email address or by SMS, as applicable.

The process is fully legal and secure. All prescriptions are issued by certified doctors, and electronic prescriptions are accepted at pharmacies in Portugal.
