Prescription Adaptation and Renewal in Portugal
Have you moved to Portugal and are continuing treatment that you started in another country? A NovoDoc doctor can help you renew a prescription issued in Portugal or adapt a prescription from abroad.
During the consultation, the doctor will review your previous prescription, medication, and dosage and assess whether your treatment can be continued in Portugal.
Prescription renewal
If your prescription was issued in Portugal, the doctor can assess whether it can be renewed.
It is important that the previous prescription is no more than 1 year old and was issued in your name.
Adapting a foreign prescription
If your prescription was issued in another country, the doctor will review the prescription and assess whether it can be adapted to the Portuguese healthcare system.
Not all medications are available in Portugal, and dosages and treatment regimens may differ. Therefore, the decision to continue treatment is always made by the doctor.
What you need to know
Upload the prescription itself or a document containing the prescription details. An SMS containing a prescription code is not sufficient.
The doctor’s consultation is included in the service fee.
The doctor determines the quantity of medication and the prescription validity period. A prescription is not automatically issued for one year or for the quantity requested by the patient.
Depending on the medication and medical condition, a prescription may cover between 1 and 6 months of treatment.
If you have developed new symptoms or your treatment needs to be changed, the doctor may recommend additional tests or another consultation.
How does it work?
You upload your previous prescription or treatment document.
The doctor conducts a consultation and assesses whether your treatment can be continued.
If the treatment can be continued, the doctor issues an electronic prescription.
The prescription is sent to the email address you provided or by SMS.
All prescriptions are issued by certified doctors in accordance with Portuguese regulations, and electronic prescriptions can be used at pharmacies in Portugal.
